Psychiatry

Dr Richard Cahill has been practicing as a Consultant Psychiatrist since 2005. He is currently a Consultant Psychiatrist in the HSE. In addition to his work in the HSE, he is in private practice in Donnybrook Centre.

He is available for consultation through referrals by GPs and by psychotherapists. He can also be contacted directly by people who feel they would benefit from psychiatric treatment. His areas of special interest are: the treatment of depression, anxiety and phobic disorders and more complex disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Dr Cahill is also trained in the management of older people with psychiatric conditions.

Dr Cahill favours an integrated model of care in dealing with patients with mentalhealth difficulties. He recognises the need for psychotherapeutic intervention which can be assisted in some cases by appropriate use of psychotropic use of medications.
