Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is often referred to as ‘the talking cure’.  That is because it is through speaking about the problems and difficulties that can be experienced in life and in relationships that we hear ourselves and are heard. A psychotherapist’s skill at listening and understanding what is being said allows him/her make interventions and interpretations that can deepen the self-awareness and self-understanding of the client. Such a circle of speech can then give rise to change and it is change that brings about an increased capacity to live life and to be in relationship with others in a more satisfying and enriching way.

Psychotherapy is usually a longer term process than counselling and engages, through the medium of the psychotherapeutic relationship, in understanding the circumstances which give rise to presently experienced difficulties.

At Donnybrook Centre, there are many forms of psychotherapy available such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Person Centred Psychotherapy, Group Therapy and Integrative Psychotherapy.
